Girl Scout with Rabbit

These attractive Girl Scout bookends trigger our nostalgia for the great times and adventures we had as a Boy Scout and a Girl Scout.   The bookends, showing a Girl Scout feeding a rabbit first appeared in the 1927 Girl Scout Catalogue.  The Scout wears the standard camp uniform for that year, a middy blouse with long sleeves and a sailor collar, bloomers with knee bands, and an official khaki hat.

The bookends are 6.25 inches tall, iron, and are unmarked except for the title, “A GIRL SCOUT.”

This year, 2012, is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts here in the United States.  It is also 55 years since the Regional Centenary World Camp celebrating Lord Baden-Powell’s 100th birthday was held in Quezon City, Philippines. Donna was a member of the patrol of 8 Girl Scouts from the United States to attend this gathering.  A very exciting time for a high school senior.

Over the years we have bought many boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. The old shortbread cookies are still Donna’s favorite.

Happy 100th Birthday to the Girl Scouts of the USA!
