Kathodian Bronze Works Nymph Bookends, ca. 1914

Each bookend is a beautiful young nude woman kneeling in a flowing spring surrounded by cattails and flowers.   Her open hand reaches toward two small animals that look like large mice.  This nude is a goddess or a forest nymph of some kind and this is her natural spot.  Because she is a mystical creature there is nothing licentious about her nudity.  The bookends are proper enough for any Victorian household.

These bookends are marked ARTBRONZ  KBW, a foundry that we know made bookends in 1914 and probably before and after that time as well. These bookends are electroformed bronze, as were all their bookends with which we are familiar.
