We’ve all done it, bought that pair of bookends online, as absentee bidder, or just spur-of-the-moment purchase, and lived to regret it. Recently a collector found he had purchased, as an absentee bidder, some crude reproductions of a Bradley & Hubbard pair and sent the images to Bookend Collector. He also noticed that a similar set was also being sold on eBay and wants to alert the bookend collecting community to the possibilities of acquiring fraudulent B & H bookends. Notice that the B & H shopmark appears on the copies.
Take a look at the photos the collector sent of the crude reproduction and compare them to a real, and well-cast, B&H bookend.

Spotted one of these fakes at Brimfield Antique Show yesterday. No price tag on the set; dealer may not have been knowledgeable in bookends.
